Hedgehog Homes & Highways

A 13 x 13cm hole is all a hedgehog needs to move from one garden to another. Hedgehog holes are vital to keep your local hog population healthy.

A hedgehog house is a great way to give your local hogs somewhere to nest. This is an example from one of our very helpful residents.

Putting out a bit of food (e.g. plain kitten biscuits or specialist hedgehog food) will help see them through the colder weather.

Hedgehogs roam on average of 2km a night to find food, mates or nesting sites.

Despite being Britain's favourite mammal hedgehogs have fallen by 30% in urban areas and 50% in rural areas since 2000. Connecting gardens is a great way to help populations bounce back.

A detailed instruction guide on how to make your own hedgehog house or highway can be found on The Wildlife Trust website.
